| | | StampWorks Version 1.2 from Parallax Author: Jon Williams
This is really two books under one cover. The first 177 pages is the Stamp Works lab manual and the remainder is Basic Stamp programmers reference manual which provide the official description of PBasic for all versions of the Basic Stamp.
The lab manual provides a series of 31 experiments demonstrating use of the most common Basic Stamp peripherals such as LEDs, switches, LCDs, servos and analog to digital conversion (ADC). Each experiement is covered in just 2-5 pages and includes just what you need to know including a schematic diagram, clear text explanation and sample PBasic code. I bought the full Stamp Works kit and found that while I didn't use the parts much I didn't do any robotics work without my Stamp Works manual. Its where I look first when I need Basic Stamp related information.
I couldn't work without my bound Stamp Works manual at my side. If your budget doesn't allow that luxury, the great folks at Parallax make the entire book available for free download from their web site. Just go to www.parallax.com and browse the download section for PDF files of most Parallax books and manauls. Manufacturer: Parallax. 528 pages. ISBN: 1-928982-00-X.

| | The Microcontroller Application Cookbook: Volume 1 Featuring the Basic Stamp Author: Matt Gilliland
This is a small book (5.25" x 8.25) that is primarily a hardware reference. It assumes a working knowledge of electronics and the Basic Stamp II programming language. After some general introductory material, it consists of short chapters (2 to 5 pages each) describing one sensor, chip, circuit or peripheral. The descriptions includes an overview of the device, a schematic diagram of typical circuits and a Basic Stamp II program example. This is a reasonable tutorial for beginners but may be a bit terse for some readers. It is organized as a reference book and deserves to be kept with your essential development tools. Manufacturer: INGRAM. Manufacturer's Part Number: 28111. 248 pages. ISBN: 0615115527.
