Picture of productGear Motor 2: Offset Shaft

This 224:1 gearmotor is very comparable to a hobby servo for power, at a fraction of the cost!

This motor offers 50 in-oz of torque and rotates at 38 rpm (just a bit slower than a servo). With a 5V power source it draws 600mA when stalled and 52ma when unloaded. It has a 7mm double-flat output shaft, built-in clutch, and convenient mounting screw holes.

These units have an overall size of 55mm (2.17") x 47mm (1.85") x 22mm (0.87") thick. They are based on a design by Mark Tilden for use in the B.I.O.-Bugs but with with a variety of improvements such as dual output shafts and a lower current motor. Manufacturer's Part Number: GM2.

Picture of productGear Motor 3: Right Angle Shaft

This is is essentially the same as Gear Motor 2 but with a 90 degree output shaft.

This motor offers 50 in*oz of torque, rotating 360 degrees every 1.6 seconds (38 rpm - just a hair slower than a servo), at 5V, drawing 600mA at stall (free running at 52mA).

With a 7mm double-flat output shaft (avoid using the "D" output - it's not meant to take rotational load), and a built-in clutch (limiting at 60 in*oz, but easily "locked"), and built-in mounting screw holes, you can see why we like these motors!

Overall dimensions are 65mm (2.56") long x 22mm (0.867") x 18.5mm (0.73"). Manufacturer's Part Number: GM3.

Picture of productGear Motor 8: Offset Shaft

This 143:1 gearmotor is much like the GM3 gearmotor but runs at nearly twice the speed. This motor goes 70RPM at 5V, drawing 670mA at stall while providng 43 in-oz torque. Free running current is 57.6mA at 5 volts.

With a 7mm double-flat output shaft (avoid using the green double flat output - it's not meant to take rotational load), and a built-in clutch and built-in mounting screw holes, you can see why we like these motors!

These units have an overall size of 55mm (2.17") x 48mm (1.89") x 23mm (0.906") thick. Manufacturer's Part Number: GM8.

With a 7mm double-flat output shaft (there is no output on the other side), and a built-in clutch and built-in mounting screw holes, you can see why we like these motors!

These units have an overall size of 70.5mm (2.78") x 27mm (1.06") x 23mm (0.906") thick. Manufacturer's Part Number: GM9.

Picture of productGeared Pagermotor

This is a really small gear motor using a pager motor and 81:1 gear train to turn 370 RPM from a 5 volts power source drawing 24.6 mA. Stall current at 5 volts is 184mA and provides 3.6 in-oz torque.

The motor measures 1" wide, 0.564" thick and 1.135" long. The square output shaft measures 0.14" per side. It weighs only 5 grams.

The factory configuration includes stops that allow a total 120 degrees rotation. The motors have a centering spring to provide a fixed "power off" position. Applying DC power will result in a 60 degree swing in one direction. Reversing power swings the output arm 60 degrees from center in the opposite direction. For continuous rotation just remove the self-centering spring and clip the sixty degree stops.

The motors have 12" stranded wire leads. Manufacturer's Part Number: GM10.

Picture of productMiniature Gear Motor: Offset Shaft

The GM6 is a baby version of our popular GM2 gearmotor, again designed by Mark Tilden to have tighter tolerances and better performance than a regular toy-style motor. These smaller, quicker 120:1 gear reduction ratio'd motors are sure to stir ideas!

This gearmotor starts rotation at 0.58 volts, turning 7RPM drawing only 46.5mA. At 5 volts, this unit really humms, spinning at 145RPM and drawing 88mA no-load (610mA stall producing 20in*oz torque). We've successfully used these units very well on solarengine circuits.

Like it's big brother, this gearmotor has a built-in safety clutch which engages at approximately 25in*oz (at 6.5V / 650mA). This motor also has a unique 2mm (0.8") crest diameter chrome-finish splined shaft can be pushed through the output gear to either side of the motor, and is also solderable! (If you do want to solder to it, yank the shaft right out, solder, then press it back in).

These motors have an overall size of 37mm x 21mm x 27mm (1.45" x 0.83" x 1.06"), and weigh in at only 20 grams (0.7oz). A tidy package, with pretty good power! Unlike the GM2 or GM3, these motors do NOT come with any sort of wheel or mount. Manufacturer's Part Number: GM6.

Picture of productPlanetary Geared Pagermotor

This is a tiny geared motor with a diameter of 6mm (0.235") and a length of 20mm (0.787"). The motor weighs 1.2 grams. It is designed for 3V operation, providing 1200RPM while drawing 100mA. Stall torque is over 20gm*cm.

The output shaft is grooved for a 1.5mm radius belt. It can be machined into a round shaft by carefully pressing sandpaper or a flat file against the shaft while the motor is under power -- effectively turning the shaft on a lathe. Once rounded, you can attach wheels such as Rubber Wheel for Pager Motor w/ Retainer or any other small output device you can create. Exercise due caution when machining the hub because spare parts are not available. Manufacturer's Part Number: GM15.
