Fischertechnik building sets are produced by a German company who's main line of business is manufacturing industrial fasteners. Fischertechnik kits were launched by the engineer-owners of that firm with a public service concern about developing student's mechanical and mental skills. While you won't find Fischertechnik kits co-branded with this year's hot movie title you will find kits that teach technical skills that aren't approached by any other construction set.
All Fischertechnik kits use strong, flexible fastening techniques that result in solid, interesting models. Even so, you might glance at their Junior or Basic Box kits and think that they are just another building set. It takes a bit of building experience to begin appreciating the subtleties of the design that let you build more advanced models than other sets. On the other hand, when you open a Profi or Computer set you will immediately recognize that you are looking at something unique. Fischertechnik kits come with more different parts than any other brand of building kit. The parts come in a wide range of size from extremely tiny to quite large. After a while you will probably begin to realize that the parts connect with more strength and flexibility than any other plastic building system. Depending on which kit you choose, you will also find parts that you never expected in a building kit such as air compressors and pneumatic vales, micro switches and photo-transistors, and lots of other surprising mechanical and electronic parts.
