I think that's the best reason, but that expenation may not have much traction with an incredulous parent, spouse or friend so I will add some more practical reasons that may help you unlock doors (and purse strings). Robot building is a great skill builder. By building robots you will learn about mechanics, electronics, compters and programming. Your will also learn problem solving skills, research skills and how to deal with frustration. Robot building is a creative activity as well as a technical one.
