Safety spectacles protect your eyes from splaching solder and flying wire snips. Spectacles are more comfortable than goggles because they don't have that elastic band stretching around your head or leave you with racoon marks around your eyes. They do not provide quite as much protection as goggles but are often a good compromise because they get used more often due to comfort issues-- goggles sitting in a drawer don't provide any protection at all. Can be worn over most glasses.
